Nicholas Winding Refn, the Danish writer/director behind the Pusher trilogy, Valhalla Rising and Bronson, has just finished making Drive with an all-star cast - Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan, Ron Perlman, Bryan Cranston and Christina Hendricks.
The film sees Ryan Gosling's unnamed stunt driver (known as 'driver') moonlighting as a getaway driver for all sorts of nefarious types. However, when his attractive neighbour's (Carey Mulligan) husband lands himself in trouble with bunch of bad mofos, driver steps up to to act as wheelman for a heist to clear the husband's debt, but when all goes awry, he finds himself the target of a contract hit.
For Winding Refn this plot is ever-so straight-and-narrow when compared with his past releases, and this excites me more than usual because the guy can certainly direct, but I've never been a huge fan of his previous works, so hopefully this will fit more neatly into the crime genre. This time round he has the script (written by Hossein Amini based on the novel by James Sallis) for the more run-of-the-mill film enthusiast (rather than the arthouse fan), and from the looks of the newly released trailer, it looks like it's definitely wrth getting excited.
You can check out the trailer here over at IGN after it was premiered at the San Diego Comic Con this week:
Gosling and Winding Refn obviously hit it off on set as they are scheduled to work together on a reworking of seventies classic, Logan's Run.
